Cabbagetown was once a very poor area of Toronto (initially garnering its name from Irish immigrants living there who were so poor they grew Cabbage on their front lawns). Now however this residential neighborhood is an attractive section of the city boasting, "the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing in all of North America" according to The Cabbagetown Preservation Association. Here you will find young working families, cafes, bakeries and the occasional farmers market. Riverdale Park is also located nearby.
